St Mary’s Church of England Primary School is in the village of Hatfield Broad Oak, serving the villages on the Herts / Essex Border to the south of Stansted Airport. Pupils come to us from Dunmow, Canfield, Takeley, Priors Green, Hatfield Heath, Bush End, Hallingbury, Four Ashes, and the Rodings.

We are “Healthy Schools” accredited and are very proud to have received a 5* Food Hygiene Rating. We provide good quality home cooked lunches every day and ensure all children in the school have fruit available at break times. You can look at our lunch menu in the “Documents” section.

We strongly encourage sport, and have active Football, Tag Rugby, Rounders and Netball teams. We participate in many inter school tournaments and events, giving our children the opportunity to excel and enjoy sport.

Children have the opportunity to learn the piano, violin, drums, guitar, or any woodwind instrument from peripatetic specialist teachers from Essex Music Services.

The behaviour of our pupils is very good. We use a positive aproach to discipline. Ofsted have commented that:“Pupils have very positive attitudes and their behaviour is very good.” To see our latest Ofsted Report, please see the “Documents” section of this website.

The school is supported by an active Parent Teacher Association, which helps the school to make continuous improvements to the facilities and the quality of school life. The events put on by the PTA are well supported which means that having a child at St Mary’s is good for both parents and children.
